Meaning of the Upaniyan
‘Upaniyan’ means “to get close or near.” But who to take? Probably in the beginning it meant “to take Acharya (for teaching).” It is possible; It means immeasurably bringing Navashhi to the state of studenthood. Some gharvasutras give such an impression, as Hiranyakeshi.
